0 Actress Stacey Dash hit with racially-charged attacks after endorsing Romney

March 7, 2010: Actress Stacey Dash arrives at the 18th Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Award Viewing Party in West Hollywood, California

“Clueless” star Stacey Dash recently tweeted her support for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, accompanied by a patriotic swimsuit picture of herself.

But now her political viewpoint has become the subject of online attacks, with many expressing crude distaste that she isn’t endorsing President Obama – and race has become a key motivator behind the digital abuse.

“You’re an unemployed black woman endorsing Mitt Romney. You’re voting against yourself thrice. You poor beautiful idiot,” one Twitter user wrote, while @Black Voice wrote, “Stacey Dash had a perm since birth. I knew I couldn’t trust her.. lol.”

Others accused the actress of “voting for white supremacy,” claiming she “is white with a dark tan,” and calling Dash a slur of offensive names.

Several other Obama supporters even went as far as to encourage “the old hag” to “kill herself.” One suicide encourager is listed as a doctor and politically active Democrat in Washington D.C., and although he reportedly has deleted the inflammatory “kill yourself” tweet, it was captured by social media news site, Twitchy.com.

But Dash seems to be taking the backlash in stride.

“My humble opinion… EVERYONE is entitled to one,” she tweeted in response.

But the 46-year-old's plug for Romney attracted plenty of applause, too.

“Thank you for being willing to think for yourself despite what your haters have to say,” tweeted one user, while another noted, “You can NEVER, EVER (did I say never?) NEVER leave the Dem party if you r Black. Once you do, the name calling begins.”

Dash did not respond to a request for further comment.

0 Sarah Jones, former NFL cheerleader, pleads guilty to lesser charges in sex case

Sarah Jones
(CBS/AP) COVINGTON, Ky. - Sarah Jones, a former Cincinnati Bengals cheerleader,  pleaded guilty Monday to lesser charges on allegations that she had sex with a 17-year-old student while she was a high school teacher. It is a move that will allow her to avoid jail time.

Jones, 27, appeared in Kenton County Circuit Court and pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct and custodial interference in place of more serious charges as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors.
"I began a romantic relationship while he was a student and I was in a position of authority," Jones said.
Jones said the relationship began in February 2011 at Dixie Heights High School in northern Kentucky when the boy was 17-years-old. She said she had sex with the boy, sent him sexually explicit text messages and lied about the relationship to the police.
Judge Patricia Summe granted prosecutors' recommendation to sentence Jones to five years of diversion but no jail time. The diversion requires Jones to report to a probation officer, undergo drug tests and never apply for a teaching job again.
In admitting to her relationship with the teen, Jones also avoids a potentially embarrassing trial that would have included transcripts of the text messages she sent to him. Defense attorney Eric Deters said Jones was willing to plead guilty because Summe denied his request to keep the text messages out of the trial.
"They're embarrassing," Deters told reporters after the hearing. "They were steamy."
Prosecutors said they were willing to make the deal because the teen, now 18, and his family were uncooperative with them and took Jones' side.
Jones resigned her position from Dixie Heights last November. She was indicted in March, and her trial was set to start Wednesday.
Jones' mother, former school principal Cheryl Jones, also pleaded guilty Monday to a misdemeanor charge of tampering with evidence. She admitted to the judge that she sent the teen a text message telling him to get rid of his phone. She also avoids jail time.

0 Romney to Deliver Foreign Policy Speech, Looking to Turn Back Criticism

Romney to Deliver Foreign Policy Speech, Looking to Turn Back Criticism

LEXINGTON, Va. — Mitt Romney plans to deliver a foreign policy speech today in which he will try to reverse some of his perceived missteps, most notably his highly criticized response to the terrorist attack in Libya, as the Republican GOP candidate looks to bolster his foreign affair credentials in the weeks remaining before the election.
The Romney campaign will use the remarks to strengthen their criticism of the Obama administration’s response to last month’s terrorist attacks in Libya, hoping to capitalize on what they believe to be a mishandling by the administration to accurately pinpoint the reason for the attacks or to have prevented them in the first place.
“The attacks on America last month should not be seen as random acts,” Romney will say, according to excerpts released by the campaign. “They are expressions of a larger struggle that is playing out across the broader Middle East — a region that is now in the midst of the most profound upheaval in a century. And the fault lines of this struggle can be seen clearly in Benghazi itself.
“The attack on our Consulate in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012, was likely the work of the same forces that attacked our homeland on Sept. 11, 2001,” Romney is expected to say. “This latest assault cannot be blamed on a reprehensible video insulting Islam, despite the Administration’s attempts to convince us of that for so long.
“No, as the Administration has finally conceded, these attacks were the deliberate work of terrorists who use violence to impose their dark ideology on others, especially women and girls; who are fighting to control much of the Middle East today; and who seek to wage perpetual war on the West,” Romney will say, according to the prepared remarks.
It was nine days after the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, one that killed four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens, when White House Press Secretary Jay Carney confirmed that the White House believed the attack to be an act of terrorism. The White House had initially suggested that the attack broke out after an anti-Islam film went viral, sparking a round of global protests.
The evening the attack was reported, Romney drew criticism after he accused the Obama administration of “sympathizing” with the attackers before all the details of the attacks were known. It was not yet confirmed at the time that Stevens had been killed. Romney, as well as his running mate Rep. Paul Ryan, began receiving customary intelligence briefings organized by the Obama administration shortly thereafter, and Romney has so far been briefed twice.
Romney advisers say that today will be a chance for Romney to “fill in more details” with respect to his own plan, in Libya and beyond. The speech, to be delivered at the Virginia Military Institute, comes just a week before the next presidential debate, which will focus partially on foreign affairs, and two weeks before the final debate, which will focus entirely on the subject.
“We’ve seen the fruits of four years of President Obama’s foreign policy and I think, particularly in light of recent events, Americans have questions about it and want to see what Governor Romney would offer,” Romney’s foreign and legal policy adviser Alex Wong said in a briefing call with reporters over the weekend. “So it’s a moment for Governor Romney to speak about that, to offer that bold choice and to show really that American security and the cause of freedom can’t afford four more years like the last four years.”
In addition to the attack on Libya, Romney is expected to address the situation in the Middle East on a whole, saying that it is time to “change course” in the region.
“I know the President hopes for a safer, freer, and a more prosperous Middle East allied with the United States,” Romney will say. “I share this hope. But hope is not a strategy. We cannot support our friends and defeat our enemies in the Middle East when our words are not backed up by deeds, when our defense spending is being arbitrarily and deeply cut, when we have no trade agenda to speak of, and the perception of our strategy is not one of partnership, but of passivity.”
The excerpts indicate that Romney will also touch on furthering the sanctions placed on Iran to prevent the country from acquiring nuclear weapons, and will support sending more aid to Syria to support the uprising against President Assad. Romney will renew his call for U.S. troop withdrawal in Afghanistan to be completed by the end of 2014.
And while Romney cast doubt on the ability to establish a two-state solution between Palestine and Israel in a surreptitiously filmed video shot at a fundraiser earlier this year, in which he called such a scenario “unthinkable,” Romney will say here today that he will “recommit America to the goal of a democratic, prosperous Palestinian state living side by side in peace and security with the Jewish state of Israel.”
Romney had remained hopeful in the fundraising video, saying later in the clip that he believed American strength would help Palestine “someday reach a point where they want peace.”
In a statement preempting the candidate’s speech, Obama campaign spokeswoman Lis Smith said all Romney has offered thus far on foreign policy is “bluster and platitudes.”
“If Mitt Romney wants to have a debate about foreign policy, we have a message for him: bring it on,” Smith said in a statement, going on to accuse him of “erratically” shifting positions on “every major foreign policy.”
And in a scathing comment aboard Air Force One on Sunday, Obama’s traveling press secretary Jen Psaki doubted Romney’s foreign policy competency all together.
“We’re not going to be lectured by someone who has been an unmitigated disaster on foreign policy every time he’s dipped his toe in the foreign policy waters,” she said. “Just as a refresher, this is the same guy who, when he went overseas on his trip, the only person who has offended Europe more is probably Chevy Chase. And that was a trip that was built up.”

0 Beef recall expanded to include more B.C. retailers

A Canada-wide beef recall has been expanded to include three new B.C. retailers. (Canadian Press File Photo)

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has expanded its list recalled beef products to include three British Columbia retailers.
The expanded recall affects a number of products — from ready-to-eat dried sausage to fresh ribs and steaks — sold at Africa Trading, Hanahreum Mart and Urban Fare.
On Sunday, the CFIA said the affected products come from the XL Foods plants in Brooks, Alta., and were manufactured between Aug. 24 and 29 and Sept. 5.
"The trace out from XL to secondary and tertiary distributors, manufacturers and retailers could result in a large number of affected products over a wide range of codes and dates," the CFIA said in a written release.
"This recall also includes unlabelled and/or unbranded beef products sold at retail stores not identified in the CFIA's product list below, which may include small retailers, local meat markets and butcher shops."
The CFIA is advising consumers who are unsure whether they have affected beef products in their homes to check with the stores where the products were purchased or throw them out.
Dozens of meat cuts and stores have been added to the recall list, which now contains hundreds of products and singles out stores across Canada and the United States.
Ten E. coli cases in Alberta, Quebec and Newfoundland are officially linked to beef products from the XL Foods plant, where E. coli was initially detected on Sept. 4.
Health officials in B.C. are investigating a possible case of E. coli that could be linked to the same plant. Test results were expected to be released some time next week.
Four cases of E. coli-related illness have been confirmed in Alberta, others are under investigation.

0 Miley Cyrus, Liam Hemsworth date night in Hollywood

Miley Cyrus, Liam Hemsworth
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth stepped out for a date night in West Hollywood last week. On October 5, PEOPLE Magazine reported that Miley and her fiance attended her sister Brandi's show at Troubadour. Rumors that the couple was having problems were almost instantly debunked when the pair—looking happy and normal—were spotted out and about with Miley's family.

"They watched the show from the balcony and cheered the girls on," shared an onlooker. Obviously things between Miley and Liam are just fine and any rumors to the contrary are simply false. The young couple seem very in love and fans enjoy hearing that they are doing well.
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth aren't getting down to the serious wedding planning just yet, but they are engaged and they do plan on tying the knot, regardless of how young they are. Miley is thrilled to have snatched up such a great guy and, as she says, she got him to "put a ring on it." They might have the odds stacked against them but they are making things work.
